About

I've been buying and subscribing to local meal delivery companies since 2015. I love having fresh, prepared meals delivered to me and not having to think about what to cook! Right now, I'm working to eat closer to a longevity diet and focusing on removing added sugar from my meals (though not my desserts!! :)

Good food, consistent.

"Eat fit is consistently good. Their menu changes weekly and they have regular, keto, and vegan options. They are local and deliver fresh, their regular meals are often a meat, brown rice, and veggie. They sometimes have fish options too which I’ve liked, since I prefer fish over meat. Their keto eggplant was aweeesome and I would probably eat it every week if I could. They offer bulk meat, veggies and rice which was a great value in my opinion. Their Sunday evening delivery time was also convenient. Cons: the first time I ordered the rice was really dry/undercooked, but it was fine the rest of the times. While the pricing is really good, the portions felt a bit small, maybe part of the meal prep/calorie conscious portioning. That’s also where ordering bulk helped for family meals."

A staple in our household

"Pete’s Paleo has been a staple in our household for years now. The food is always tasty, and since it’s paleo has a good balance of meat and veggies. Usually, it’s one meat (chicken, turkey, pork, or beef) and two veggies. They do a lot of root veggies like sweet potato. We don’t follow a strictly paleo diet, but still love the meals. The portion size is good. We freeze them to always have them stocked, and microwave them for 5 and a half min directly from the freezer when we don’t have food around. Individual portions are perfect for a single meal and no mess cleanup, though even if I love the convenience of the plastic packaging I wish there were a better way. Cons: I wish they had fish options. They’re a bit pricey. We’ve also tried their bone broth which is great."

Clover is the best

"Clover is CRUSHING it. I liked Clover a lot for lunches when I lived in Cambridge. I was really excited to see they delivered meal boxes within 30 miles of their hub, so all the way up the northshore where I now live. I tried the starter box first, which I think they’ve changed since. It included the Impossible Kofka, a Breakfast sandwich kit, lots of hummus, and their pitas. We were super happy about the box – it was fresh, healthy, vegetarian, and large-portions. My 4 year old even made and ate her own pita sandwiches. That was back in Dec (2021) and I didn’t even know they were quietly rolling out subscriptions. I’m not usually a fan of getting pulled into subscriptions, but I signed up for ALL FOUR of theirs: Taco Tuesday, Soup Wednesday, Burger Friday, and Pasta Saturday. They have more days now too. It’s way too much food to have all in one week (plus I order the large portions and eat over multiple days), but I’ve tried them all. Taco Tuesday is my favorite. The burgers (vegetarian of course) are great. While I try to avoid pasta meal delivery, I looooved their lentil Bolognese. I waited last to try soup Wednesday, but it is great – sometimes I eat one of the soup containers and freeze the second for later. Each of these subscriptions has a new menu weekly, so while the theme is the same (tacos every Tuesday) you get different food each week. Clover is by far my longest running meal delivery service. They probably wonder who this person is that pretty much only feeds themselves Clover food. They are in an incredibly innovative and business-expanding phase right now – they source from local farms (really, they talk about the farms and what’s coming in season. A lot of companies say they source from farms, but its not really clear they do) and change the menu based on the season. They have a la carte ordering on the site (where you can order seasonal sandwiches, soups, etc.) and they have a constant influx of seasonal and holiday boxes (Superbowl Box, Maple Box, Easter Box, Passover Box, Mother’s Day Box…). They are putting a ton of effort and creativity into their meal delivery program and it shows – it looks like they’re having a lot of fun doing it as well. Thanks Clover for keeping me healthy and well-fed!"

High quality food, cooking, and service. Love it!

"I’m two weeks into my Feast & Fettle subscription. They are really professional. Delivery and communication were great. They were going to be a little late on the first delivery compared to the window they gave me the day before and texted me that day to let me know. The food arrives in an insulated bag with an ice pack that you leave out and they swap on your next delivery which I love. We’re on the couples plan which includes 2 mains and 4 sides that you pick from their menu each week. The first week we ordered Chinese Beef w/ Broccoli, Flounder w/ Roasted Tomato and Artichoke, sauteed mixed peas with shiitake mushrooms, lemon-pepper carrots, jasmine rice with edamame, and an apple and goat cheese salad. The beef was delicious and came with a really good sauce. I loved the flounder, and the veggies were all great. I wasn’t a big fan of the jasmine rice, it was a little dry, though you probably get better value by cooking your own rice and picking a different side instead (we have a rice cooker so its easy). The first week also came with a little box of caramels from a local company which was delicious. The second week I chose all vegetarian – a tofu entrée and a Spanish rice stuffed peppers entree. The Mexican street corn I ordered was actually delicious and had a good amount of cheese in it. I felt like the value for the vegetarian order wasn’t quite there since the entrée ingredients (tofu, peppers, rice) were so much less pricy than the beef and fish. The price of Feast & Fettle isn’t low, they’re restaurant-level prices, but they deliver quality food, quality cooking, and quality service – they don’t skimp. They definitely put love into their food and the experience. So if you can afford it, I think its worth it. As for the subscription, you have the skip each week you don’t want to order or you can pause your plan and choose the number of weeks. The cancel button is easy to find next to the pause plan, but I haven’t tried the cancellation process yet. Overall, I was really impressed with the company – I recommend!"

Fresh, Healthy, Simple, Tasty. Good portions of fish/meat and greens

"I ordered from Premium Preps this week. I got a text shortly before the delivery to let me know they'd be arriving. The meals were packaged neatly in black plastic containers with labels for each meal. I ordered shrimp and bok choy, cajun salmon and roasted cauliflower, hot pepper chicken, soy ginger steak and a buffalo chicken quesadilla. I thought the food was awesome. The food tasted fresh and very healthy. I was impressed with the menu, the portions of the fish and meat, and loved that there were options without rice (there was a healthy portion of bok choy with the shrimp!). The sauces added good flavor but weren't overpowering or unhealthy. The black and white sesame seeds on some of the plates was also a nice touch!"

Now delivers to me! Really yummy.

"I was so excited to see WECO expanded their delivery zones, and I ordered the first week! I got a vegetable lasagna, chicken wings, kids pulled pork sliders, a drink mixer (“tropic like it’s hot” that was a fruit juice mix, with a can of ginger beer and dried mango slices), and cannoli. I have to start with the cannoli because it was soooo fun, innovative, and delicious. It came as one container of cannoli shells (half dipped in chocolate with pistachios) and one container of cream filling (also with pistachio bits) and a paper thing that you use to funnel the cream into the cannoli. It was fun, it was fresh, it was delicious. My kids loved it, and I had forgotten that cannoli is one of my husband’s favorite desserts. On to the rest…the lasagna was really good, it was a large and heavy portion, we cut it in half and ate it across two meals. The lasagna had some veggies in it that I would never have thought to put in a lasagna (I think there were chunks of squash or sweet potato) but it still tasted like a regular lasagna. It came with a light salad that was also fresh and good and had pumpkin seeds, which I love. The wings were good. My husband prefers them crispy and fried and they were baked which was his only comment, but it’s probably hard to do crispy fried food with meal delivery (same with French fries and similar). My kids didn’t eat the pulled pork sliders, though its really rare for them to eat our delivery food, my husband ate them himself as another meal. The drink mixer was fun, I didn’t end up adding alcohol to it though. My kids ate the mango slices. Overall the food was great, delivery was on time. The price ended up being similar to restaurant takeout and the food style is restaurant-y as opposed to more healthy/meal-prep style. I will definitely order again."

Cute packaging. Good food.

"I liked Farmer’s Fridge a lot. The containers are really attractive because you can see the food in them and good for taking them with you to work or somewhere. I liked the breakfast ones the most, the yogurts, chia pudding, and oats. The containers look small, but they were pretty rich and filling. I wish there was less added sugar, but I know most people expect a sweeter taste for their breakfast and yogurts. I really liked the truffle couscous bowl, it’s labeled as chicken online, but for some reason I didn’t realize that when I ordered. I took the chicken out because I didn't want it. The enchilada bowl and farro risotto were good. The salads were good/ok, I think I just don’t love salad so maybe shouldn’t hold it against them. I ordered too much to eat within the 4-5 days they’re good. This one shipped in the mail insulated with ice. There are fridge locations (hence “Farmer’s Fridge”) that you can pickup at in Chicago, New York and a number of other places which seems like a good option if you live near there."

Love their smoothies

"Their smoothies are sooooo good. Cacao almond, raspberry cacao, mint chip, and chocolate cherry one (repeated chocolate theme!) were amazing. The green smoothie was also great as a healthier option. You can create your own custom 10 or 15 pack box of them. We’ve tried the juice shots – the ones with ginger were pretty intense and concentrated. I’m not sure how much of a health difference juice shots make, but I did like trying them. We also love some of their soups, the butternut was a favorite, but we’ve like pretty much all of them. The meals, however, I would pass on. Since everything arrives frozen, I felt like the smoothies and soups were great, but the meals were just ok or not great. I highly recommend the smoothies!"

Healthy, delicious meal prep. Salmon was my favorite

"Best Life exceeded my expectations. Their food was reeeeally good. I had the salmon and soba noodles for my first order and it was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful, better than you’d get it at most restaurants - I was honestly blown away by the salmon. The rest of their food was tasty as well. They come packaged with plastic film which is a little off-putting and gives a sense of being manufactured (see my pics, they don't do the food justice), but that doesn’t represent the food at all! They have a good mix of meat and fish options, though not for vegetarians. They do change their menu, but not weekly. I have them on my rotating list to order from, but since the menus don’t change often enough I generally don’t order weekly."

Food was great.

"RevCo was great for “traditional” style meals if you’re not looking for a diet plan. Their menu rotates every few weeks or so. When we ordered we got a salmon dish that I thought was amazing (though not cheap, but cheap fish is questionable, so it's probably a good thing). The grain bowls were big and healthy and I thought they were a great value. We had they “chicky parm” chicken parm with penne in family size that came in two oven-ready containers along with a baguette which was unexpected but welcome! It was good and our kids ate that too. They ship in the mail in a box with ice and insulation. I usually prefer the local deliveries that don't have so much packaging, but the food was great, I would order again!"

Healthy, yummy, fresh, consistent

"We spent 7 months in Honolulu and subscribed to Good Clean Food. They’re based in Kailua, but deliver to most of the island. They delivery 10 fresh, gluten-free, dairy-free, and sugar-free meals per week in two deliveries. Six meals arrive Monday and 4 arrive Wednesday. Their food was great, they have a bunch of diet plan options and we’d rotate among them from vegetarian to keto to anti-inflammatory. They often had local-style food on the menu like kalua pig. Their rice was service in a nice rice ball and was always moist and perfectly cooked. My favorite was when they had Okinawa (purple) sweet potatoes in the meals. The food was clean and fresh and we loved it for a couple month, but as usually happens to us with meal delivery companies, after a couple months the same style meals (chicken always cooked the same way, same foods just mix and matched) started to get too boring. As with all takeout in Hawaii, containers are compostable!"
